OSCON Blackboard

When we receive a call regarding the use of Blackboard, we’ll always ask for the Course ID, and not the Blackboard Course Name.

Why?

Well the course ID is a unique field in the Blackboard database which cannot be duplicated. The Course Name however, can be and so by providing us with the Course ID, we can be certain we’re investigating/supporting you on the correct Blackboard Site.

For example, a user may report, they need guidance copying content from ABCD1234 to ABCD2468  which they believe are the COURSE IDs. What they may be providing is the Module Name/Course Name entered in a Content Area on a Programme Site. The problem with providing Course Names is that when we look at the database, there may be many instances of ABCD1234 and we then need to confirm with the tutor via phone, email etc the Course ID as required. This takes more of your time waiting for the support call to be resolved.

So, to get the unique Course ID, just follow these simple steps.

  • Log into Blackboard and navigate to the Blackboard site you need support with.
  • Go down to the Control Panel and click on Customisation
  • Click on Properties
  • The course ID will be displayed similar to that highlighted below.

This is all we need to initiate the support of your Blackboard site in a timely manner.

We hope you found this post useful.
